Roy Lichtenstein Reflections Series, 1990

In Reflections, Lichtenstein interrupts recognizable subjects with bands, dots and shapes that suggest reflected light or a view through glass. Comic-derived figures and earlier artistic motifs appear partially concealed, drawing attention to how an image is seen.

The seven core works, made with Tyler Graphics Ltd. in 1990, are catalogued as Corlett 239–245. Two related editions, Reflections on Expressionist Painting and Reflections on Soda Fountain, were produced separately and have different edition and workshop details.

Paper, Dimensions and Production

The seven Tyler Graphics editions were produced on mould-made Somerset paper, combining lithography and screenprint with relief or woodcut, metallized PVC collage and embossing. Sheet dimensions vary by composition. Compare the full sheet measurement with the appropriate Corlett entry, keeping it separate from the frame opening.

The Two Related Editions

Reflections on Expressionist Painting: Made in 1990 and published in 1991 for the Carnegie Hall 100th Anniversary Portfolio, this work uses screenprinted encaustic wax and Magna on Saunders Waterford paper. Saff Tech Arts printed it; Fine Art Ltd., St. Louis, published it for the benefit of Carnegie Hall.

Reflections on Soda Fountain: This 1991 screenprint is on BFK Rives paper. Gemini G.E.L., Los Angeles, printed it and co-published the edition with the artist.

Signatures, Dates and Workshop Marks

The core editions are signed, numbered and dated ’90 in pencil in the lower-right margin, with the Tyler Graphics blindstamp. Workshop numbers are documented on the reverse.

The related editions require different comparisons: Expressionist Painting is dated ’90 and carries Saff Tech Arts markings; Soda Fountain is dated ’91 and carries Gemini G.E.L. markings. Match the full medium description and catalogue reference alongside the image and inscriptions.
